Hoyt Witcher’s Service Station, Late '70s

Hoyt Witcher’s Service Station, Late '70s

"Yes sir, boss man," Hoyt would greet everyone that pulled up to the pump.
"Three dollars' worth, and a plug of Days Work chewing tobacco," my dad would often say. Then, "Charge it," before driving off.
The country gas station was the predecessor of the modern convenience store. In addition to gas, batteries, and oil changes, one might stop by for an RC Cola and a Moon Pie. In this photograph, Hoyt is where he almost always was in pleasant weather: sitting on a Coca-Cola crate, napping in the sun.
